Collared Pratincole,
Stanpit Marsh, 14th September 1957
As the result of a
recent review, the BBRC no longer accept the above record. Below is an
excerpt from the announcement. In the present day, there is very little
local knowledge of the record, however, the evidence is definitely against
it.
"....the plumage
description describes a diagonal white wing bar and the bird is described
as having settled on water. Enquiries in several countries on the continent
where the species is familiar have indicated that it is a bird which has
never been seen to settle on the water. It is felt, therefore, that this
record can no longer be let to stand."
This adjustment reduces
the harbour list to 318 species.
