Butterfly Update - 12 July 2008

In the last few days, lots of Small Skippers, Large Skippers and, more unusually, a few Essex Skippers have been around the long grass areas, particularly the saltmarsh adjacent to the harbour shore. Essex Skippers have been gradually expanding their range eastwards and were first recorded in 2005.

Purple Hairstreaks are also in evidence, with at least a dozen in oaks outside the Nursery yesterday afternoon.
