Odonata / Butterfly/ Moth Update - 20 July

The Skimmers and Chasers of early July now seem to have disappeared but still a few impressive Emperors Anax imperator patrolling the Batters area, in particular.

Common Blue Damselflies Enallagma cyathigerum are abundant around ponds and batters area, as well as a few Emeralds Lestes sponsa and Small Red Damselflies Ceriagrion tenellum.

A huge number of Six-Spot Burnet Moths all around the head on ragwort and thistles and there also seems to have been a big influx of the immigrant Silver-Y moth

Small Skippers are still all around the grassy areas of the head, together with Large Skippers. Good numbers of gatekeepers and meadow browns are also around. A few painted ladies basking on paths.
