Odonata (& Butterfly) Update - 3 July 2006

Double figures of emperors, Anax Imperator , all around Lily Pond and Ironstone Quarry.

Lots of Black Tailed Skimmers, Orthetrum Cancellatum , around Ironstone Quarry in particular? The males competing aggressively for territories.

Fewer Four-Spotted Chasers, Libellula Quadrimaculata , now, but still good number around Lily Pond and Batters

Common Blue Damselflies, Enallagma Cyathigerum , are all around ponds now

Small Skippers are now all around the grassy areas of the head, and good numbers of Gatekeepers are also in evidence, as well as the omnipresent meadow browns.
