On 4th September 2021 the CHOG Nursery Hut bird hide was formally opened.

The project was sponsored by CHOG and the Cameron Bespolka Trust, along with support from many others… The Hengistbury Head Ranger Team, the HH volunteers who created the access path, and all those who donated towards the costs.

The Cameron Bespolka Trust, a major sponsor of the hide, was set up in memory of Cameron Bespolka, an enthusiastic young nature lover, who died in a tragic accident in 2013. The trust’s aims are to inspire young people to love and appreciate birds, nature and our environment. We hope that this window on wildlife will contribute to that.

Bird hide location and opening times

The hide is accessed via a short path from the eastern edge of the Long Field at Hengistbury Head and gives views into the nature sanctuary known as the Nursery. We are aiming for the hide to be open from 9am to 4pm, sometimes longer, seven days a week. Please bear with us if you find it unexpectedly closed. Volunteers wanted!

Opening and closing the hide and maintaining the feeders only happen because people volunteer their time. Keeping the hide open seven days a week is only possible with sufficient support.

Volunteers can opt for any duty, on any day of the week, by simply adding their name to a roster. Volunteers can do as much, or as little, as they like.
